Splashdowns
a tribute to the men who made it happen - the Apollo ground staff
Ever since time, men dreamed of a journey to the stars. Very early attempts of building a spaceship to fly to the moon are documented. When it finally became possible in the 1960's, the space theme also entered the cultural world. Artists of all kinds got interested in moon travels and outer space. In the music field, bands like The Astronauts, The Spotnicks or The Sputniks started sporting space suits and wrote music about the issue. Heroes of that time were the astronauts and the kosomonauts. While everybody went crazy over them, one forgot about the true heroes of the space journeys, who never got a chance to go out there. The men in the control towers, the rocket engineers and physicists, built these genius spaceships and gave the astronauts a save ride home. But nowadays, nobody recalls T. Keith Glennan, James T. Webb oder Don Babbit. In fairness to those people, the band The Splashdowns was formed. Their CD is a monument to celebrate the heroes of the ground staff. Their songs named Countdown, Apollo 8, Happy Lift-Off and LOR or EOR? are instrumentals and are supported by the NASA. At their shows, this witty threesome enlights the audience with backround info on the Apollo program, clearifies scientifical terms, and thus familiarizes everybody with these men, who took care of the famous astronauts so well. Show some respect to these men! A tribute to the Apollo ground staff.
